there’s so much i don’t understand about this picture
I’ve decided to reblog this every time I see it until it makes sense.
He’s a bit young, but he may just look younger, but I believe he’s been at a wedding ceremony, contrary to most people probably thinking prom. He’s just a bridegroom, though, no wedding ring. The sewing machine would have been a wedding gift for the young newly weds, possibly helping them take the gifts to their car. The accident (UPS truck) probably happened while they were having the reception, and they stopped outside to survey the damage, a family friend snapping the photo and posting it to a social media site of their choosing. Someone of tumblr, the original poster, found it, and posted it to tumblr where we are viewing it now.
and yes I’m from the sherlock fandom.
If you’re from the Sherlock fandom, you should have known to do your research. Your fault is in the sewing machine and the time of day. Unless it was a very early wedding, chances are they would not be getting out before the sun went down, especially as it is either very early in the morning or late in the afternoon (check out the shadows and the color of the light on the sidewalk. It’s too red to be late morning or early afternoon.) Also, if it was after the wedding and he was helping them carry gifts, he would probably have taken off his tuxedo jacket. He’s young enough that it is most likely a rental. That is what I am able to gather at a first glance and keeping your very logical conclusions in mind.
I decided to go deeper.
A reverse image search revealed a news article with a similar photo from a slightly different angle and without the sewing machine kid. After reading the article, it was revealed that the accident took place on a university campus. Princeton University to be exact, Whitman College to be even more exact. To be completely exact, outside Patton Hall. This is not a likely location for a wedding service or reception, so I feel we can let go of that assumption.
I also confirmed that my original hypothesis was correct. The accident occurred at 5:56pm, and considering the cops have already arrived in the photo it is at least 6pm. Late afternoon indeed.
Knowing that the event took place at Princeton University, I’d say this is most likely a Seinfield fan who felt the opportunity was too good to pass up. His reasoning for wearing a tux is unclear, but I can’t make bricks without clay and there is no clay there. It may have been an intentional part of the photo, it may be that he was on his way to a formal dinner.
Why a Seinfeld fan? In the 150th episode of Seinfeld Kramer, The Pothole, Newman drives by in his mail truck, catches a Singer brand sewing machine, and drags it along behind him. The sparks from the sewing machine ignite the paint thinner and he crashes and burns.
Normally I would not jump to the conclusion that this young man is a Seinfeld fan and that that was what inspired him, I would simply assume he wanted to take a goofy picture. However there is only one model of sewing machine that looks like that and has a handle and that is a Singer. Here’s a photo:
Without being able to see the actual machine in the photo I can’t be certain, but they look very much like the same machine. Knowing that coincidences are rare, I therefore conclude that the brand name was intentional as a reference to the episode.
Any questions?
I’m not in the Sherlock fandom. I am Sherlock.I like when people choose to think about things.
oh my fucking god how do people even think like that thats fucking brilliant
I expected the explanation to make things clearer
